Erected in 1933 by A. W. Hitchens, the building was built to replace property Mr. Hitchens owned on Duke of Gloucester Street prior to the Restoration of Colonial Williamsburg.

The first floor tenants include retail, office, and a restaurant  The second floor is occupied by a boutique hotel.

Adjacent blocks have been redeveloping in recent years, adding to the vibrancy of this commercial area.
